How to Find Inspiration after a Spell of Writer’s Block
If you are a writer then you’ve probably experienced writer's block at least once in your life. It is exhausting to sit in front of a computer screen for hours trying to string together a couple of words. It can make you doubt your ability as a writer, your self-worth, and can even shatter your confidence.
Getting out of this unproductive funk is always up to you, but sometimes it just seems impossible. You keep waiting for something to change in your life hoping it will inspire you to write again. But if you truly want to recover from writer's block then you need to put in conscious effort. Here are some ways you can find inspiration.
Often the only thing that can help you get over writer's block is writing. If you are having a hard time finding inspiration or can't come up with any ideas then you can try out some writing prompts. There are hundreds of writing prompts available online that can help your creative juices flow. Some people may hesitate to try prompts because they think creativity and inspiration are innate but sometimes you need a little push to get things started.
Try Free Writing
Trying to force yourself to sit down and write while you are struggling with writer's block can feel like the hardest thing to do. But writing without expectations can actually help bring out our innate creativity.
All you need to do is set a timer for 5 or 10 minutes and start writing without focusing on sentence construction, punctuation, and spelling. You don't have to form any story or follow any particular scenario, just write whatever comes to mind. This can feel like catharsis and as you start to pour your words onto the page, they will become your inspiration to start writing again.
Socialize With Friends and Family
When we are busy writing, we often enter our own worlds and neglect our friends and family. Perhaps the reason you struggled so much was that you didn't have the time to wind down and relax. Take this time to recharge your social battery and spend time with your loved ones.
